Leopards started very slowly in the season but have picked up winning momentum since mid-December.

AFC Leopards’ fast-rising winger Hassan Beja has explained why the club took a while to start getting consistently good results in the opening half of the season.

Leopards have been on a roll recently and have gone unbeaten in each of their last five fixtures, with four of those straight wins.

Beja has been particularly influencial in that run, scoring a goal and creating an assist while also giving the side a fresh dynamic with his pace.

Speaking exclusively following their 2-0 win over Kariobangi Sharks, a game in which he was named man of the match, Beja explained the reason his team struggled initially before picking up momentum beginning with the game against Kakamega Homeboyz in December.

“I think we were struggling at the beginning of the season because we had way too many players who were new and trying to adapt to the club,” Beja told Pulse Sports.

“ I am grateful that we have trained well, the management and coaching staff  for putting their faith in us, as well as the original players for helping us settle.”

Beja has opted to play the cagey card when asked where he thinks Leopards will finish come the end of the season.

“I cannot say that for now because we will take every game as it comes and try to win. Other teams will also be on their run. I think we will take what we will get at the end of the season.”

The former Nzoia Sugar winger has revealed what he plans on achieving with the side in the long term, expressing optimism about next season’s fortunes.

“I want to win the league, but we did not start well. I am hopeful that next season will be much better. We will seek to start up from there and see if we will be able to attain that.”

While AFC Leopards continue in their quest to become as good as their squad on paper suggests they could, Beja is really starting to show why he was brought into the team.

They will hope he can keep continuing at his pace, especially having been named the player of the week.
