A Liverpool legend has empathised with a Manchester United forward after their latest defeat to Wolves.

Liverpool legend Michael Owen has expressed heartfelt sympathy for Man United forward Rasmus Hojlund following the team's disappointing 2-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day.

The latest defeat was United's third consecutive defeat, with pressure beginning to pile on new Ruben Amorim.

What happened

Matheus Cunha proved to be the inspiration as Wolves continued their resurgence under new manager Pereira against 10-man Man United.

The forward scored directly from a corner kick to help Wolves beat 10-man Manchester United and compound Ruben Amorim's woes.

After a dull first half to forget from both teams, it was the home side who took control, with Cunha at the end of everything good they did.

He broke the deadlock in stunning and controversial style after scoring from the corner before setting up the winner in added time following a Christmas gift from Alejandro Garnacho.

Liverpool legend Owen on Hojlund's Struggles

During the match, Hojlund's performance was notably hindered by a lack of service, as he managed to receive only six passes by halftime, four of which came from defenders.

Owen criticised the situation, stating, "You want your best players on the ball. [As a] Centre-forward for Manchester United, you get so many chances it’s impossible not to score, but he had six passes in that first half."

He noted painfully that being a striker in such circumstances is "the hardest position at the moment," pointing out that the team is not functioning well enough to support him effectively.

Despite being a key player for United, Hojlund's involvement was limited throughout the match. He received just two additional passes in the second half before being substituted in the 79th minute.

The lack of opportunities reflects broader issues within the squad, as they struggle to create chances and score, with 21 scored in 18 matches this season in the Premier League.

Bruno Fernandes picked up a third red card of the season.

Implications

With this latest defeat, Manchester United continue to face mounting pressure as they seek to improve their performance and regain form.

The team under Amorim will need to find ways to better utilise Hojlund and enhance their attacking play if they hope to turn their fortunes around in upcoming fixtures and avoid a relegation dogfight.
