Ouma marked his first start for Elfsborg in the Swedish top flight since joining from Nairobi City Stars two years ago.

Harambee Stars midfielder Timothy Ouma is looking forward to starting more games for Swedish outfit IF Elfsborg after playing a crucial role in helping get a win over Malmo last weekend.

Ouma, who joined the side from Nairobi City Stars back in 2022, has gradually been fast-tracked into the first team, spending most of his time playing in the reserves, but getting a few games here and there for them.

However, he has been getting much more gametime after impressing in pre-season, and against Norrkoping, impacted the game well off the bench, making two key passes although they lost 4-2.

This performance was enough to hand him his first chance against giants Malmo, and he assisted one of the goals as they sailed to a 3-1 win.

Reflecting on his performance and how it felt to have played such a crucial role in a game as important as that, Ouma was ecstatic.

“After the win, it was so amazing. It felt really good,” Ouma told the club’s media channels.

“It feels amazing winning at home against them. The first part of the season was not so good  but now that we got three points, we have to pick it from here and go to the next match.”

Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat, who is a big fan of the player, said in a press conference earlier this year that he expected the midfielder to start getting more minutes for the club, which will be beneficial for the national team in the long run as well.

Ouma, 19, was part of the U-20 set up to the Malawi Four Nations tournament and he did very well, but he has also earned five caps, all as a substitute, for the senior set up

“I expect him to get more minutes to his club but I wanted him to gain more experience internationally, that is why we asked for him to be with the u20s.”

Elfsborg, after three wins in seven matches, are seventh on the log with 10 points, and next face third-placed Djugarden on Sunday at the Tele2 Arena.

Then, Ouma, who made just one substitute appearance in his first season, will hope to have backed up his Sunday performance with a space in Jimmy Thelin’s group of dependables.
