Harambee Stars were punished for their late lapse in concentration when Burkina Faso forced them to settle for a 1-1 draw in their Mapinduzi Cup opener.
Harambee Stars paid the price for a late lapse in concentration as they were forced to share the spoils with Burkina Faso in their Mapinduzi Cup opener at Gombani Stadium in Pemba, Zanzibar on Saturday.
Kenya were headed for a 1-0 win, having gone past the 90th minute mark leading, but allowed Burkina Faso back into the game in stoppage time.
Harambee Stars had gone ahead on the stroke of halftime thanks to a quick reaction from James Kinyanjui and survived a barrage of attacks from the Burkinabe for most of the second half.

‘He will make a good coach’ - Kenyan goalkeeper backs Benni McCarthy for Harambee Stars job
The Harambee Stars goalkeeper feels the Bafana Bafana legend will be a success in Kenya owing to his vast experience both as a player and coach in South Africa and Europe.
However, any hopes of making it a fourth win in five against Burkina Faso went up in smoke when Aboubakar Traore cleverly got the better of the defence to head home just past the 90th-minute mark.
The game had started quickly with both teams going all out attack in the early exchanges but the West Africans asked the most questions.
Kenya would survive before putting up a good display in the last 20 minutes of the first half and their enterprising display was rewarded with the goal.
Boniface Muchiri brought in a freekick on the stroke of halftime with the Burkina Faso goalkeeper spilling the ball and Kinyanjui reacted quickly to slot it in the rebound.
After the break, Burkina Faso were quick off the blocks and Traore nearly made it 1-1 two minutes in, but missed from close range, before Kenya’s goalkeeper Bryne Omondi pulled off a number of key saves to preserve Kenya’s lead.
Aboud Omar should have made it 2-0 for Kenya as the game was heading towards the 90th minute mark and after that, they were made to rue that miss.

Gor Mahia set to lose key defender to Tanzanian moneybags Singida Black Stars
The defender has agreed to join the big-spending Singida Black Stars where he will link up with Kenyan colleagues Elvis Rupia and Joash Onyango.
A ball floated into the box saw Kenyan defenders Hanif Wesonga and Brian Okoth fail to track Traore well and he got ahead of them to head in the equaliser in the first of the six added minutes.
