Kenyan forward Jonah Ayunga provided two key assists in St Mirren's UEFA Conference League match helping advance his team.

Kenyan forward Jonah Ayunga was instrumental in securing St Mirren's commanding 4-1 win over Icelandic team Valur in the UEFA Conference League match on Thursday night.

The Saints qualified for European competition for the first time since 1987 after securing a fifth-place finish in the Scottish Premiership.

St Mirren buoyed by their enthusiastic support turned the tie around following a goalless first leg in Reykjavik.

From the outset Ayunga’s presence on the pitch was felt and 15th minute saw debutant Shaun Rooney converting a powerful header from a corner, a moment that set the tone for St Mirren's dominance.

The pace and tactical acumen of Ayunga came to the fore in the 51st minute when his flick-on from a long goalkeeper clearance led to Tayosi Olusanya doubling the lead.

Ayunga continued to trouble Valur’s defence throughout the matcha and drive and determination were evident just past the hour mark where his powerful shot forced an excellent save from Valur’s goalkeeper Frederik Schram.

The third goal of the night, a spectacular volley by skipper Mark O’Hara was another instance where Ayunga’s influence was critical.

Following a throw-in his clever flick found O’Hara who made no mistake in finding the back of the net.

Although Valur managed to pull one back through a penalty by Tryggvi Hrafn Haraldsson.

The final nail in the coffin was delivered by substitute Alex Iacovitti who scored the fourth goal in the 87th minute shortly after entering the pitch.
