Harambee Stars remain in 108th place, two below Tanzania and another 20 behind East African leaders Uganda.

Kenya’s national football team, Harambee Stars, has retained its 108th position in the latest FIFA world rankings, despite a series of mixed results during the November international break.

The rankings, which reflect performances in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers and international friendlies, underline the challenges faced by the team in securing a significant upward trajectory.

The Harambee Stars registered a 0-0 stalemate against South Sudan in the CHAN qualifiers and followed it up with goalless draws against Zimbabwe and Namibia in friendlies.

These results did little to boost Kenya’s standing, leaving the team 26th in Africa and 108th globally, a position they have held since the previous update.

The disappointing run also saw Kenya miss out on qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), dampening hopes of a resurgence on the continental stage.

East African rivalries heat UpIn the East African region, Tanzania remain ahead of Kenya at 106th place after securing a coveted spot in the 2025 AFCON. Uganda, however, emerged as the regional standout in 88th following their impressive performance in the AFCON qualifiers.

These rankings highlight the growing competition within East Africa, with Kenya now trailing its neighbors in both global and continental positioning.

On the broader African stage, Morocco continues to shine as the top-ranked team, sitting at 14th globally. Fresh off their historic FIFA World Cup semi-final appearance and as hosts of the 2025 AFCON, Morocco remains a beacon of African football.

Senegal, ranked 17th globally, follows as the continent’s second-best team. Kenya’s Group F rivals in the Africa World Cup qualifiers also feature prominently, with Ivory Coast at 46th, Gabon at 84th, The Gambia at 125th, and Burundi further down at 139th.

Globally, Argentina retains the top spot as World Cup holders, while Vietnam made the biggest climb, moving up two places to 114th. Hong Kong gained the most points, adding 4.18 to their tally, while Seychelles suffered the steepest drop, falling seven spots to 201st.

With the next FIFA rankings update scheduled for March 2025, Kenya will aim to improve its standing through the Africa World Cup qualifiers. However, the stagnant position in the current rankings serves as a call for introspection and revitalized efforts to reclaim dominance in East Africa and beyond.
