Linton Maina has won the award after making six goal contributions to mark a flying start to the season for FC Koln in the 2.Bundesliga.

Maina, who was unable to help Koln avoid relegation from the Bundesliga last season, has looked a player reborn this season, making six goal contributions in five league and cup matches this year.

The winger, who has represented Germany at U-20 level, has scored two goals in the league and provided another two assists there, while in the cup, has scored one and assisted another one.

His remarkable form started on Friday, August 2, when he scored his first goal of the 2024-2025 season during a 2-1 defeat to Hamburg. 

The following weeks only solidified his dominance, as he earned a Man of the Match accolade in a thrilling 3-2 win over Sandhausen in the DFB Pokal, where he both scored and assisted. Not content with just one star performance, Maina added two more assists during FC Köln's emphatic 5-0 rout of Braunschweig.

The highlight of his August displays came during Köln’s impressive 3-1 victory over Schalke 04 at the Veltins Arena last weekend. Maina capped off a beautiful team play, scoring one of the goals that sealed the triumph for his side.

“Congratulations on being named FC Köln's Player of the Month for August, Linton! You deserve it!” Cologne proudly posted on their official website, recognizing his efforts and achievements. In honor of his Player of the Month title, Maina was presented with a trophy shaped like a billy goat, symbolizing the club's nickname, Die Geißböcke.

Maina's resurgence this season comes at a critical time for both him and FC Köln as they push for promotion back to the Bundesliga. He will next be in action on September 14 when Köln takes on FC Magdeburg in what promises to be another exciting encounter in Bundesliga 2.

With his early season form, the Kenyan-German winger has undoubtedly raised expectations and set the tone for what could be his best campaign yet.
