The Harambee Stars midfielder shone as he helped IF Elfsborg get one step closer to sealing Europa League group stage qualification with a crucial away win over Molde.

Harambee Stars midfielder Timothy Ouma is 90 minutes away from helping his side qualify for the Europa League group stage after he played a vital role in helping IF Elfsborg claim a crucial first leg playoff win over Norwegian side Molde away on Thursday night.

The match began with Molde dominating possession and creating an early chance in the third minute, but Elfsborg’s defense held firm.

Despite Molde’s initial control, Elfsborg quickly leveled the playing field with solid defensive organization and effective pressing.

Elfsborg took the lead in the 15th minute after a well-executed team move. Besfort Zeneli initiated the play by passing the ball to Michael Baidoo, who, despite facing away from goal, skillfully angled a pass to Ahmed Qasem.

Qasem then finished the move with a composed strike, placing the ball into the bottom corner to give Elfsborg a crucial away goal.

The Swedish side continued to apply pressure, disrupting Molde’s attempts to build momentum. Elfsborg’s defense, led by goalkeeper Isak Pettersson, was solid throughout, effectively neutralizing Molde’s attacking efforts, particularly in the second half.

As the match progressed, Molde attempted to increase the tempo and create scoring opportunities, but Elfsborg’s defense remained resolute.

In the dying minutes, Elfsborg nearly doubled their lead, with substitute Emil Holten coming close on two occasions, but Molde’s goalkeeper managed to keep the scoreline at 1-0.

Elfsborg’s disciplined performance leaves them in a strong position ahead of the return leg in Borås next Thursday, where they will aim to secure their place in the Europa League group stage.

Ouma will become the only Kenyan international playing in the group stage of a European competition if Elfsborg do qualify.

Amos Nondi and Alwyn Tera of Ararat Armenia were unable to help their team reach the playoffs of the Conference League, as did Jonah Ayunga, playing for Scottish outfit St. Mirren.
