Robert Matano represents local coaches that have won KPL titles, doing so with Tusker and Sofapaka
Former international Noah Abich has reiterated the need for Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards to consider hiring home-groomed coaches.
Abich, the journey man who previously played for Nzoia Sugar, Chemelil Sugar, Sony Sugar, Tusker, AFC Leopards, Kakamega Homeboyz, Sofapaka, Mathare United, Bandari among others said local coaches are equal to the task if Tusker's achievements are any barometer.

FOOTBALL Kibera Black Stars coach Noah Abich’s half-time rant divides opinion among fans [VIDEO]
Kibera Black Stars coach Noah Abich lashed out at his players during a tense half-time pep talk but the manner in which he went about it has left fans divided
"Tusker have a local coach and they keep doing well season in season out but I don’t understand why Gor and AFC believe in foreign coaches, they don’t come here to work but to make money," Abich told SportsBoom.
"It is high time these two clubs changed their mentality towards local coaches and entrusted them with the duties. We have seen enough of foreign coaches, " he added.
Robert Matano guided Tusker to the title in 2022. He was also at the helm when the Brewers bagged the gong in 2012. The experienced tactician is best remembered for guiding Sofapaka to their maiden title in 2009.

‘There is pressure’ - AFC Leopards coach admits feeling Mashemeji derby heat, laments challenging conditions
AFC Leopards coach Tomas Trucha has admitted feeling the pressure ahead of this weekend’s Mashemeji derby against Gor Mahia while lamenting the challenges his team is facing.
Gor Mahia parted ways with Brazilian tactician Leonardo Neiva last week after a spate of poor results. Neiva represents a chain of overseas coaches to have tutored K'Ogalo and most of whose their tenures came to premature end.
Andrei Spier lasted just seven months. Mark Harrison and Carlos Vaz Pinto both took charge for six months before being shown the exit door by the 21-time champions.
Leopards currently have Tomas Trucha as head coach. The Czech Republic international is also under thorough scrutiny as much-improved Ingwe continues to blow hot and cold this season. Patrick Aussems, Nikola Kavazovic and Rodolfo Zapata previously were at the helm of the 13-time Kenya Premier League champions.
Despite the revolving door of coaches at the den, Ingwe haven't won a KPL title since 1998, further putting into perspective the need for them to rethink their hiring process.
