Harambee Stars land in South Africa ahead of their two must-win AFCON 2025 qualifying fixtures against Namibia and Zimbabwe.
The Kenya National Football Team, Harambee Stars, has touched down in South Africa as they prepare for two critical AFCON 2025 qualifying matches.
Set to take place in Polokwane, Kenya will first face Zimbabwe on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 7:00 PM EAT, followed by a match against Namibia on November 19, at 4:00 PM EAT, both at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Head coach Engin Firat and his squad departed Nairobi early Monday morning and arrived at Oliver Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, marking the beginning of their final preparations for the upcoming games.
The team’s early arrival is aimed at acclimatizing to the conditions in Polokwane—a familiar ground where they clinched a 2-1 victory over Namibia in September during the first leg of the qualifiers.
Kenya, currently third in Group J with 4 points, trails group leaders Cameroon with 10 points and Zimbabwe with 8 points. With only two games remaining, Kenya needs wins to have a chance of progressing to the 2025 AFCON tournament.
Coach Firat has named a 23-man squad for the matches, featuring some new faces and familiar leaders. U20 captain Amos Wanjala makes his debut call-up to the senior squad, adding youthful energy to the team.
