Kenyan defender Alphonce Omija leaves Dhofar Club to return to Kenya after a triumphant stint and major trophy win.

Omani side Dhofar Club has officially announced the transfer of Kenyan defender Alphonce Omija to Gor Mahia, following the expiration of his contract.

This move comes after a notably successful period for Omija at Dhofar, where he became a vital part of the team since joining in February 2023.

During his tenure at the club, Omija was instrumental in securing the His Majesty Sultan Cup in May, marking a high point in his career with Dhofar.

The club expressed their appreciation for his contributions ins ashort statement on X.

“Harambee Stars defender Alphonse Ominja will join Gor Mahia on a one-season deal from Dhofar Club," it reads.

At 21 years old, Omija’s journey in football has been nothing short of inspirational.

Starting on the streets of Korogocho in Nairobi, his raw talent was first nurtured at Gor Mahia's youth system alongside peers like Geoffrey Ojung’a and Lloyd Kavuchi.

His significant breakthrough, however, came at Kariobangi Sharks, where his performances not only won him local acclaim but also paved the way for his international career.

Valued at £225,000, equivalent to approximately Ksh 37.5 million, Omija's move is seen as a strategic acquisition for Gor Mahia as they look to bolster their defense for the upcoming season.

His return to Gor Mahia is anticipated with much enthusiasm by fans and former teammates alike.

Born on October 9, 2002, in Nairobi, Omija attended St. John's Catholic School and later Baba Dogo Secondary School.

His upbringing in Nairobi's challenging neighborhoods has not only grounded him but also fueled his ambition to succeed internationally.
