Mandela made less than 30 appearances in four seasons at Sundowns but hopes for a fresh start at Stellenbosch.

Stellenbosch’s latest acquisition Brian Mandela, is determined to make a significant impact in his new surroundings, vowing to "leave the jersey better than he found it" as he embarks on his journey with the Cape Winelands club.

The seasoned Kenyan international and formidable center-back joined Stellenbosch as a free agent earlier this week after ending his tenure with Mamelodi Sundowns and has actually already made his debut for the side, coming on as a stoppage time sub as his new employees overcame his old club 1-0 on in the MTN8 Cup semis on Wednesday.

Reflecting on his move to Stellenbosch, Onyango expressed his gratitude and enthusiasm for the opportunity to contribute to the club’s ambitions.

"First of all, I would like to thank the almighty God for giving me another opportunity to showcase my talent, and the coach, technical staff, and management for affording me the chance to join the club," Onyango told the club's website.

The 30-year-old defender is excited to be part of a project that aligns with his competitive spirit and hunger for success.

"Stellenbosch FC is a good, competitive club with ambitions to challenge for the title and in the cup competitions. There are very few players who could say no to a project like this," he added, emphasizing his commitment to the club's vision.

Onyango is no stranger to the high demands of top-flight football, and his experience at Mamelodi Sundowns, one of South Africa’s most successful teams, has prepared him well for the challenges ahead. Having already begun training with his new teammates, Onyango has been impressed by the camaraderie within the squad.

"I’ve had the opportunity to meet and train with my new teammates and I have learned that they are good human beings, so I’m looking forward to getting started with the team," he noted.

A key aspect of Onyango’s approach is his willingness to both share his extensive experience and learn from those around him.

"I’m also looking forward to sharing some of my experience with the squad and at the same time learning from their experience, because football is a journey where you have to keep learning every day," he said, underscoring his dedication to personal and team growth.

Looking ahead to the season, Onyango is focused on helping Stellenbosch FC build on their recent success, particularly the Carling Knockout title they secured last season.

"As for the season ahead, I was always taught to leave the jersey better than I found it, so I am looking forward to a good campaign and helping the team do even better than last year," he concluded.

With Onyango’s leadership and experience, Stellenbosch FC fans can be optimistic about the club's prospects as they aim for more silverware and a stronger presence in South African football.
