Ouma, who plays for Rakow Czestochowa in Poland, expressed the squad’s enthusiasm and commitment ahead of the match.

"I'm seeing everybody is excited, and we are happy to be back representing the nation, which is an important thing. Tomorrow’s match is very important for us—we have to win," he stated.

Addressing the pressure that comes with World Cup qualification, the former Gor Mahia defender emphasized the team’s focus on executing their game plan.

"If you look at every nation, they all have pressure to achieve something. But for us, we have to go there, play our game, and set our targets right. I know if we play well, then we are going to win the match. I’m sure we are well prepared for it," he added.

While acknowledging the quality of their opponents, Ouma stressed the importance of not underestimating Gambia, who also boast players competing in top leagues.

"I think the opponents are equally good because they have players who play in good leagues. So, we also have to respect them. We cannot go there to underestimate anyone. Every game is a final, so you have to play like it’s your last match," he concluded.

The match marks a historic moment as it will be Benni McCarthy’s first competitive fixture as Harambee Stars’ head coach since his appointment.

The South African tactician, known for his tactical acumen and experience at the highest levels, will be eager to start his tenure on a winning note.

The squad features a blend of experienced internationals and rising local talents. Key figures include Al Duhail striker and Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga, alongside emerging stars like Mohammed Bajaber and Manzur Okwaro.

After facing Gambia, Kenya will return home to host Gabon in another crucial qualifier on Sunday, March 23, in Nairobi.

The two matches will be pivotal in shaping Harambee Stars' journey toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as they seek to secure a historic qualification.
