Mohammed Bajaber has earned praise from Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy who has revealed how he left an impression on him during their recent conversations.

Mohammed Bajaber endeared himself to Kenyans with impressive performances for Harambee Stars last month but also left a great impression on coach Benni McCarthy.

The Kenya Police attacking midfielder is among the stars churned out by McCarthy during the World Cup qualifiers against The Gambia and Gabon as he scored a stunning goal on his debut in the 3-3 draw with the Scorpions before starting and impressing in the 2-1 home loss to the Panthers.

It is not just his talents that excited his national team coach but his mentality as well as McCarthy has opened up about the conversation he had with the player which left him feeling that he will be one of his main lieutenants as he bids to bring success to Kenya.

What did Mohammed Bajaber tell Benni McCarthy?

“What I have experienced here in Kenya, there are so many players going abroad to Europe so they are not afraid to step out of their comfort zone because the belief is that yes I can play in Europe, I can make it in Europe and I love that,” McCarthy said on NTV on Monday night.

“Because you see so much of that here in Kenya, they have so much aspirations. Mohammed Bajaber, I had so many conversations with him and he is like; ‘Coach I am going to play in Europe.’

“So, I am saying, okay that is my kind of player, he already knows his mentality wants to take him to play against the best players in the world and because Kenya has that, how can you not get excited about that kind of belief and ambitions.

Kenya Police ace has work to do to get to Europe

“They know to get to Europe, you need to have success with your national team so we are going to benefit from them and they are going to help us succeed so then they can get themselves to Europe.”

Going to Europe will not be something new for Bajaber who had trials in Denmark in the early years of his career and is reportedly on the radar of foreign clubs.

The Star Field Elite Academy product is keeping his feet on the ground as he bids to fire Police to a maiden FKF Premier League title before linking up with McCarthy again for the 2024 African Nations Championships and a good performance with Harambee Stars will edge him closer to making that European dream a reality given the many eyes that will be watching the tournament.
