Kenya rose in the FIFA rankings despite inactivity and are preparing for the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations against Cameroon in September.

The Kenya women's senior team, Harambee Starlets, has moved up one place in the latest world rankings released by FIFA on Friday.

The ranking now places Harambee Starlets at 148th, up from the last ranking published on June 9. They have maintained the same total accumulated points of 991.

Starlets have not been in action since February 2022 when FIFA suspended Kenya due to government interference in football. This suspension led to Kenya being banned from participating in international football matches.

Despite their inactivity in recent international windows, Starlets remain the second-best women’s team in the CECAFA region, with Ethiopia ranked 124th. Other regional rivals like Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda are ranked 152nd, 161st, and 163rd, respectively.

Starlets are scheduled to return to action next month in the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) against Cameroon. These two-legged encounters are set to take place between September 18 and September 26, with the first leg being played away from home.

If Starlets emerge victorious on aggregate against Cameroon, they will then face either Gabon or Botswana in the second round.

The battles of the second round are scheduled to take place from November 27 to December 5.

The stakes will be higher, as a win in this round would secure automatic qualification for the prestigious 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Five months ago, Starlets were set to play Albania but the friendly was canceled due to logistical issues .

The game had been scheduled for April 11 in Tirana but it was canceled following consultations between the FKF and the Ministry of Sports.
