Kenya were held to a frustrating draw against Tunisia in the first leg of their 2026 WAFCON qualifiers fixture.

Harambee Starlets’ Corazone Aquino has pinpointed what went wrong for Kenya in their frustrating 0-0 draw against Tunisia at the Ulinzi Sports Complex on Friday.

The first leg of the double-header 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier proved to be a challenging contest for the Starlets.

Despite enjoying long spells of dominance, Kenya found the visitors difficult to break down, with Tunisia's defensive discipline holding firm throughout the encounter.

Aquino, a key figure in Starlets' attacking play, nearly forced an opener in the 40th minute.

The midfielder combined well with Mwanahalima ‘Dogo’ Jereko inside Tunisia’s 18-yard area, but their promising move ended in disappointment as the ball rolled out of play.

“I think we contained the entire match. Maybe I can just say luck was not on our side to utilize our chances,” Aquino reflected in her post-match interview.

The visitors, while mostly defensive, had their moments of danger.

Tunisia’s Samia Aouni came closest to scoring in the second half when her well-struck free kick beat Kenyan goalkeeper Lillian Awuor but struck the crossbar before going out for a goal kick.

Aquino remains optimistic ahead of the return leg, acknowledging the team’s need to make adjustments.

“But we have seen our mistakes, and we still have some days to go and make corrections,” she added.

With the second leg scheduled for Wednesday, February 26, at the Stade Olympique de Sousse in Tunisia, the Starlets will be keen to sharpen their attack and deliver a decisive performance.

A win in the crucial encounter would secure their progression to the next round of the WAFCON qualifiers, keeping their continental dreams alive.
