AFC Leopards started the year positively after overcoming Kakamega Homeboyz in the Governor’s Cup exhibition match at Bukhungu Stadium

AFC Leopards had something to cheer about as they started the new year with a win.

Leopards overcame Kakamega Homeboyz 1-0 in the Kakamega Governor’s Cup exhibition match at Bukhungu Stadium on Monday.

Christopher Koloti scored the only goal early in the second half when he got the better of his markers to find the target and a second-string Ingwe side stayed resolute to carry the day.

It was sweet revenge for Ingwe who had lost to Kakamega Homeboyz in the Elijah Lidonde Memorial Cup final a week ago.

Both teams used the match to give their youth teams a run out as the senior sides prepare for the second leg of the season.

Of interest to Leopards and their fans were strikers Koloti and Mark Shabaan who started the match amid reports that the club has decided to sign them in the mid-season transfer window.

The two were among the stars in the recently-concluded Malala Super Cup and Leopards seem to have decided to snap them up to help solve their problems upfront.

They should have been delighted with what they saw from Koloti as he easily shrugged of his marker to get on the end of a pass and slot home.

Leopards goalkeeper Samuel Kusindi also pulled off some good saves to keep his side in the game as they claimed the bragging rights.

The exhibition match acted as a curtain raiser for the final between Maroon Commandos from Khwisero Sub-county and Young Simba from Shinyalu.
