Barcelona failed to capitalise on Real Madrid's slip up in defeat to Leganes at Montjuic.

Barcelona, tried as they might, failed to respond to a fourth-minute opener from Leganes, as Los Pepineros defended resolutely to clinch a 1-0 victory against the league leaders.

After an impressive midweek showing to beat Dortmund, Barcelona were keen on a return to winning ways in LALIGA following the slip up at Betis last week.

With Real Madrid's draw at Rayo Vallecano, and Atletico Madrid now level on points at the top of the log, it was all to play for. However, the Blaugrana failed to rise to the challenge, as they suffered their fourth league defeat of the season.

Key match details

Barcelona were caught off guard early on, as Oscar Rodríguez's corner kick was met with a powerful header from Sergio Gonzalez, leaving Imaki Peña with no chance.

Despite dominating possession for the remainder of the half, Barcelona's attacking endeavours were marred by a lack of precision and several last-ditch blocks.

Their most promising opportunity arose when Raphinha's first-time effort from inside the area was tipped onto the crossbar by Marko Dmitrovic after a brilliant cross from Alejandro Balde.

The second half was a stark contrast, with Barcelona dominating the game. Leganes deployed a deep block. However, the Blaugrana's attacking forays were few and far between, with Robert Lewandowski's header sailing over the crossbar 10 minutes into the half. Jules Koundé spurned their best chance, sweeping a low effort wide of the far post from close range.

Leganes held on, beating Barcelona to secure their first victory away from home this season.
