Pep Guardiola reveals the reasons why he still manages to avoid being sacked

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed the secret to his record of never getting sacked as a manager amidst the growing list of Premier League dismissals in the 2022/23 season.

Guardiola’s special record as a manager

A record 12 managers have lost their jobs in the Premier League this season, more than any season in the competition’s history, but the Manchester City boss has managed to stay in the job despite a less-than-stellar season for the Cityzens.

The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona manager is currently the second-longest serving manager in the Premier League, behind only Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp after spending six years and nine months with Manchester City.

Guardiola also holds a rare distinction among managers in football as the Spaniard has managed to avoid the sack in his 15 years and three tenures as a coach, despite being involved in three high-pressure jobs with ambitious clubs.

Guardiola reveals secret to incredible record

When asked about the secret to his longevity and ‘stainless’ record as a manager, Guardiola revealed that he was only in a job because his teams won games.

He said, “I will tell you a secret. We win games. If we don’t win games, I would be sacked. It’s not because my hair is better than the other ones. I’m not sacked because we win a lot of games,”

Guardiola has won 10 league titles in his time as a manager, and has a 70+ win percentage in his career as a senior club manager making him one of the most successful managers in recent football history, so his claim checks out as it would have been difficult to find a reason to fire him.

Meanwhile, in other Manchester City news

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has declared star forward Erling Haaland fit and ready to return to action against Southampton in the Premier League after a short period out with a groin injury.

The forward suffered a groin injury against Burnley in the FA Cup win after scoring a hat-trick in the game but has been declared fit to play this weekend.
