Gor Mahia midfielder Austin Odhiambo faces the prospect of returning to K’Ogalo after going AWOL ahead of the Kagame Cup as he tried to force a move to Europe.

Gor Mahia midfielder Austin Odhiambo is left facing the prospect of rejoining his K’Ogalo team-mates at a time he hoped he would be in Europe.

Odhiambo did not travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania with the rest of the Gor Mahia squad for the Kagame Cup as he sought to complete a deal to Belgian side KAA Gent.

However, a week later and K’Ogalo returning home after early elimination from the regional tournament, the midfielder is still in Kenya with the transfer far from being finalised.

Odhiambo and his representatives have been working on the deal but Pulse Sports understands as by Tuesday, the record Kenyan champions had not received an offer from the Belgian club, holding his move.

It is a setback somewhat for the evergreen midfielder who was arguably the player of the season at Gor Mahia and by extension in the entire FKF Premier League.

The 24-year-old scored 11 goals and also chipped in with a number of key assists, leading Gor Mahia to a record 21st league title, and his stock rose even higher when he provided an assist for Duke Abuya during Harambee Stars’ 1-1 draw with Burundi in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June.

Odhiambo enhanced his reputation further with two goals and an assist for Emerging Stars at the COSAFA Cup tournament in South Africa this month to attract interest from the continent and beyond.

Besides Gent, the former AFC Leopards player has also attracted interest Zambia as well as Rwanda but he is believed to favour a move to Belgium.

With the offer taking longer to arrive, Odhiambo will have to rejoin his team-mates in training as they prepare for the inaugural Coal City International Cup in Nigeria or choose the other options on the table.
