FKF Premier League defending champions Gor Mahia will be eager to bounce back when they take on Kakamega Homeboyz.

Gor Mahia will be looking to overcome their recent woes when they take on Kakamega Homeboyz in the FKF Premier League (FKFPL) on Wednesday at the Machakos Stadium.

The defending champion have seen their title retention challenge fall apart recently, resulting in the sacking of head coach Leonardo Neiva.

After back-to-back wins in their two opening fixtures, what started as a promising season has turned sour with victory eluding K'Ogalo in four consecutive matches.

Two draws and two losses in their last four matches saw fans baying for blood and calling for Neiva's head as things reached the boiling point in the fixture against Murang'a Sea on November 2 where chaos erupted after a last minute equalizer to deny the side all three points.

The next fixture against Bandari FC would be the Brazilian tactician's last as a 2-0 defeat at the Coast saw the final nail in his coffin hammered.

With assistant manager Zedekiah 'Zico' Otieno taking charge of the side, the 21-time champions hoped to jumpstart their season against bitter rivals AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji derby but the fixture was postponed due to a lack of stadia.

The side now turn their attention to Homeboyz in a fixture that has proven to be quite challenging for K'Ogalo in recent time.

The defending champions have struggled against the Homeboyz in their last five encounters with their only win coming in a 2-1 victory after penalties in the FKF Charity Shield final back in 2023.

Both of their two league encounters last season ended in stalemates with neither side getting better of the other.

Homeboyz have endured a nearly similar horrid start to their season campaign placing just a point above their Wednesday opponents.

With just two victories in nine matches played, the side will be eager to stake their claim against an equally struggling Gor Mahia side.

Their last outing saw the side frustrated to a barren draw against Bidco United at the Mumias Complex on Saturday, taking their season's tally to nine points.

A win at the Machakos stadium could see the side improve on their log standing while a loss will see the defending champions leapfrog them.
