The Harambee Stars forward clinched the Golden Boot on the last day as Gor Mahia were crowned FKF Premier League champions.

Benson Omala sensationally grabbed the FKF Premier League Golden Boot after scoring a crucial first-half brace against Bidco United on the final day of the season.

This stunning performance ensured that Omala finished at the top of the scoring charts a redemption after narrowly missing out last year.

His two goals brought his season total to 19 edging out his closest competitors in a dramatic finale.

Omala’s achievement marked a significant moment for Gor Mahia as the club concluded the league with 73 points, a marked improvement from their 70-point finish last season.

The race for the Golden Boot was intensely competitive up to the last moments of the season. Omala entered the match with 17 goals closely followed by Kenya Police FC striker Tito Okello who had found the net 16 times.

The situation was further complicated by the injury of South Sudan international Okello during a match against Kariobangi Sharks which left him unable to add to his tally and effectively out of the race.

John Mark Makwatta, who was third in the running with 15 goals, did manage to score in AFC Leopards' victory over Police at the Police Sacco Stadium.

However, his single goal was insufficient to catch Omala, who held his lead firmly to the end.

The achievement is particularly sweet for Omala, who had led the scoring charts for the majority of the previous season as well, only to lose out to Elvis Rupia in the final stages.

Last year, Rupia set a new record with 27 goals, surpassing the 47-year-old record by a single goal, while Omala finished with 26.

This season has seen a dip in overall scoring compared to the 2022/23 season, with none of the leading scorers reaching the 20-goal mark—an indicator of tougher defenses or perhaps more balanced offensive play across teams.
