The player is set to be part of K'Ogalo's backline after agreeing a two-year deal

Gor Mahia have reportedly signed Nairobi City Stars defender Kennedy Onyango, who will be unveiled soon.

Vidic, as Onyango is known, has been handed a two-year deal by the Football Kenya Federation Premier League winners, who are keen to have a squad with a sharper competitive edge next season. Coach Johnathan McKinstry will be keen to build a squad with depth and balance, given that he will compete on multiple fronts next season.

Defending the Premier League, aiming for the FKF Cup, and hoping for an advanced campaign in the CAF Champions League is not going to be an easy task, and McKinstry will need to have multiple options to achieve his dream.

Onyango's expected arrival should not only add numbers to the backline but also his experience, which will be key. Having played for Kakamega Homeboyz and Nairobi City Stars before, it means he has the requisite qualifications to fit into the defensive department of K'Ogalo.

Onyango signed for Simba wa Nairobi from Homeboyz and had to compete for starting places against Edwin Buliba, Yusuf Mukisa, Wycliffe Otieno, and Salim 'Shitu' Abdalla.

Onyango's reported imminent arrival at K'Ogalo coincides with rumours that Dennis Ng'ang'a, who is out of contract, is about to sign for the Zambian Premier League side, Zanaco.

Given that some of Gor Mahia's players were outstanding in the recently concluded season, they must have attracted interest elsewhere, and the club knows that they are set to lose some of their top talents.

What matters is whether they can get equally capable replacements to drive their ambitions in the 2023–24 season. Shafik Kagimu left after helping Gor Mahia win their 20th Premier League title, and the giants moved on to sign Kevin Juma from Nzoia Sugar.

Peter Lwasa also left, and the club is yet to bring on another forward to bolster the attacking department.
