Individuals wishing to take part in the upcoming Gor Mahia club elections have been given a set deadline they must have completed registering as members to become eligible.

Gor Mahia Football Club has officially set a deadline for member registration as the club prepares for its eagerly awaited elections, scheduled for April 13, 2025.

The club has announced that individuals wishing to participate in the voting process must finalize their registration by March 31, 2025.

With leadership positions up for grabs, this election is expected to be one of the most closely contested in recent years. The polls will be conducted during the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Basketball Arena, Nyayo National Stadium, starting at 7:00 AM.

The battle for the club’s leadership is expected to be intense, with long-serving chairman Dr. Ambrose Rachier seeking re-election.

However, his tenure is set to be challenged by the club’s current Honorary Treasurer, Dolphina Adhiambo, who has officially declared her candidacy for the chairmanship.

For the Secretary General position, incumbent Samuel Ocholla has expressed his interest in retaining his seat, setting the stage for an engaging contest.

To ensure a fair and transparent process, an electoral board has been constituted to oversee the elections. The board comprises experienced individuals, with  Githu Wahome serving as chairperson.

The other members of the board are Professor Ben Sihanya, Professor Omondi Oketch Kenya Airports Authority managing director Henry Ogoye -who also served in the committee back in 2020 and Rose Lillian.

The upcoming elections hold immense significance, as they come at a time when Gor Mahia is navigating governance disputes.

The Sports Disputes Tribunal (SDT) had previously ruled that the club’s Executive Committee’s term expired in August 2024, necessitating fresh elections to bring clarity and stability to the club’s leadership.

With the registration deadline looming, club officials are urging members to ensure their eligibility to vote. Only registered members will have a say in shaping the club’s future, making this an important opportunity for supporters to influence Gor Mahia’s leadership direction.

Speaking on the upcoming elections, chairman Ambrose Rachier who insisted he was legible to run for elections “for a second term” as per the new constitution, assured that everything was set in place to make sure the club conducted elections in a transparent manner.

“Everything is set for the elections; the venue has been booked and I can assure you the elections will be free and fair and everyone should be ready to accept the outcome of the elections including myself,” Rachier said.

As April 13 approaches, the football fraternity will be keenly watching the developments at Gor Mahia. The elections will not only determine the club’s leadership for the next term but also play a significant role in shaping its long-term vision.

With ticket sales for upcoming matches -including Sunday’s Mashemeji Derby - soaring and fans anticipating a thrilling conclusion to the FKF Premier League season, Gor Mahia’s elections come at a pivotal time.

The outcome will likely have lasting implications on the club’s stability, management, and future aspirations in both domestic and continental competitions.

For now, all eyes are on March 31—the final day for members to register and secure their right to vote in this historic election.
