Onyango had to be stretchered off the pitch after colliding with his keeper Gad Mathews Otieno during thier 1-0 win over KCB on Sunday.

Gor Mahia have provided an update over the unfortunate injury sustained by veteran defender Kennedy ‘Vidic’ Onyango in the side’s 1-0 win over KCB at the Machakos Stadium on Monday morning.

Onyango, who was brought into the side for the clash, had to be taken off in a stretcher when the former Nairobi City Stars defender collided with his keeper Gad Mathews while trying to deal with an aerial challenge.

In a statement released by the club, Onyango suffered complete fibula and tibia fractures as confirmed by doctor Fred Nyakwaka, and wished him a speedy recovery.

The healing time for tibia and fibula complete fractures varies based on factors such as the severity of the fracture, the type of treatment, and the patient's overall health.

Non-surgical cases: Simple fractures may heal within 3 to 6 months with immobilization using a cast or brace.

Surgical cases: Complex fractures requiring surgical intervention, such as the insertion of rods, plates, or screws, may take 6 to 12 months to fully heal.

Rehabilitation, including physical therapy, is crucial for restoring mobility and strength during the recovery period. Onyango is looking at the possibility of being on the sidelines for closer to a year.

The veteran defender signed from Simba wa Nairobi in July 2023, and went on to win both the FKF Shield Cup and 2023/2024 League title with K’Ogalo.

Onyango's football journey began with Sony Sugar's U19 team in 2011, and over the years, he has represented various clubs, such as Shabana , Karuturi Sports,  Talanta, Nairobi Stima , Nakumatt FC, Posta Rangers and  Kakamega Homeboyz.

The lone goal was scored by Austin Odhiambo from a freekick that was not well cleared by the KCB wall, which left keeper Bonphas Munyasa incandescent.

The win takes Gor Mahia’s tally to 46 points, just three behind league leaders Kenya Police.
