Gor Mahia have missed out on a top Ugandan transfer target, with Rwandan giants swooping in to secure his signature.

Record FKF Premier League champions Gor Mahia have missed a massive heist on Ugandan international Denis Omedi, who has signed a two-year deal with Rwandan giants APR FC.

The forward finalized the move on Wednesday and even watched APR’s league match against Marines FC in Gisenyi, marking a definitive end to speculation over his future.

Omedi’s transfer saga has been a topic of intense speculation, with Kitara FC Chairman Deo Kasozi revealing the player had several suitors.

"Omedi has had over five clubs interested in him, including Gor Mahia," a club official who sought anonymity told Pulse Sports.

The forward had previously been linked with a move to Singapore, but negotiations fell through due to disagreements over contractual terms, reigniting hopes for Kenyan fans that he might join K’Ogalo.

Sources close to the player have confirmed that Gor Mahia had approached Omedi and were keen on securing his services to strengthen their squad.

However, the striker opted for APR FC, leaving Gor Mahia empty-handed. Adding to the drama, Omedi had even missed a friendly match with Gor Mahia in Siaya, fueling speculation that the deal was falling apart.

Omedi has been a key player for Kitara FC since joining the Ugandan club three years ago from Booma FC.

His contributions helped Kitara secure the Stanbic Uganda Cup, cementing his status as a top-tier player.

On the international stage, Omedi has been instrumental for the Uganda Cranes, scoring two crucial goals in the team’s campaign to qualify for AFCON 2025.

Gor Mahia’s interest in Omedi coincided with their preparations for the upcoming transfer window, which opens on January 31 and closes on February 28, 2025.

K’Ogalo are eager to bolster its squad following the departure of two long-serving players, Ernest Wendo and Philemon Otieno, whose contracts expired at the end of December.

The missed opportunity has left Gor Mahia fans disappointed, as Omedi was seen as a perfect fit for the club’s attacking needs.

The striker’s prolific record at Kiatara, where he scored 14 goals last season, highlighted his potential to shine in the FKF Premier League.

Interestingly, Omedi was recently named in Uganda Cranes’ provisional squad for CHAN 2024 by coach Paul Put.

However, his move to APR FC automatically rules him out of the tournament, as CHAN regulations stipulate that only players competing in domestic leagues are eligible.
