Gor Mahia aim to maintain lead in FKF Premier League against Kariobangi Sharks by building on their unbeaten run and dominant form.

Defending champions Gor Mahia are gearing up for a significant clash in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League as they prepare to face Kariobangi Sharks this Saturday in Machakos.

With the second leg of the league underway, Gor Mahia is aiming to continue their unbeaten streak and solidify their position at the league's summit.

Currently, Gor Mahia holds a commanding seven-point lead at the top, edging out second-placed Nairobi City Stars after 17 games.

K'Ogalo's recent form has been impressive, boasting four victories and a draw in their last five matches, including notable wins over Bandari and Posta Rangers.

Gor Mahia coach Johnathan McKinstry acknowledges the challenge posed by the Kariobangi Sharks.

“Sharks always bring a competitive edge to the game. It's a rivalry that has intensified recently, and our close encounter a few weeks ago adds to the intensity,” McKinstry said.

In their last meeting on December 3, 2023, Gor Mahia clinched a narrow 2-1 victory over the Sharks.

Alpha Onyango and Benson Omala were on target for Gor Mahia, with Panchol Ghai scoring for the Sharks.

“We are familiar with their style, having played against them recently. They enjoy passing and moving the ball from the back, which is different from the direct and physical approach of Posta Rangers,” McKinstry noted.

The coach hinted at adopting a different strategy for this match, compared to their approach against Posta Rangers.

“Kariobangi Sharks' playstyle requires us to adapt. We need to limit their game and enforce our quality on the field,” he added, emphasizing the need for tactical flexibility.

McKinstry remains optimistic but cautious, aware of the toughness of the encounter.

“It's going to be a challenging match, but we are confident. If we play to our potential, there are three points up for grabs,” he concluded.

Kariobangi Sharks, currently 13th in the league, will be looking to upset Gor Mahia and improve their standing. With just four wins and six draws from 17 matches, the Sharks have a mountain to climb against the league leaders.

Gor Mahia has dominated their recent league encounters against the Sharks, maintaining an unbeaten record in their last five meetings and conceding only two goals during this period.
