FKF Premier League defending champions Gor Mahia are looking to pick up momentum ahead of league resumption with a key friendly against Kitara FC in Siaya county.

Gor Mahia will usher in the new year with an international friendly against Ugandan side Kitara FC at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium in Siaya on Thursday.

The match provides the defending Kenyan Premier League champions an opportunity to regroup after a turbulent first half of the season as they aim to defend their title.

Captain Philemon Otieno has rallied fans to turn up in large numbers to support the team, emphasizing the significance of the occasion.

“I want to urge all the Gor Mahia fans to turn up in numbers in Siaya for the international friendly match against Kitara FC from Uganda. It is going to be a very auspicious occasion that we urge our fans to grace. The football will be of the highest level,” said Otieno.

Midfielder Enock Morrison echoed the skipper's sentiments, underscoring the match as a prime opportunity to prepare for the league's resumption.

“We have had enough time to prepare for this match. We don’t usually have such opportunities to prepare and have the match very near to our fans who can come to watch us play and have conversations,” Morrison noted.

“We have belief because the league is defending itself, and our fans should believe the league is coming home.”

The friendly is a key component of Gor Mahia’s preparations for their first league match after the break, a high-stakes clash against Tusker FC at the Machakos Stadium on Saturday.

The match against Tusker is a six-pointer, with Gor Mahia trailing their rivals by just three points. Tusker, who sit in second place with 27 points, are only separated from the table toppers KCB on goal difference. Gor Mahia, on the other hand, occupy third place with 24 points.

As the race for the title intensifies, Thursday’s friendly offers Gor Mahia a crucial platform to build momentum and fine-tune their strategies.
