The former Gor Mahia goalkeeper has lauded the current K’Ogalo custodian Kevin Omondi for leaning well from him before beating the milestone he set nine years ago.

Gor Mahia legend Boniface Oluoch has lauded goalkeeper Kevin Omondi for beating his record of clean sheets and urged him to do even more.

Omondi, who has already claimed the Golden Glove award, reached 20 clean sheets for the season when Gor Mahia beat Sofapaka 1-0 on Sunday, beating the record of 19 set by Oluoch in 2015.

Gor Mahia have been hard to break down this season, recoding 23 clean sheets in 33 matches, and Omondi has not been involved in only three of them, two of those happening last month when he was suspended.

While the importance of a strong defence cannot be discounted, Oluoch, who now serves as the goalkeeping coach at Gor Mahia, believes Omondi’s achievement is enough proof that he has been doing a good job of tuning the club’s shot stoppers.

“It is okay that he broke my record. It shows I have been doing a nice job. When he was at other teams, he was not doing it but now under my guidance he has managed this. Let him set the record even further,” Oluoch told Pulse Sports.

Omondi, who joined Gor Mahia from Sofapaka before the start of this season, has a chance to extend his record to 21, during the season finale against Bidco United on Sunday.

He is lucky to be working with Oluoch who knows what it feels like to succeed at a demanding club like Gor Mahia.

Oluoch was in great form in 2015 as Gor Mahia won the Premier League title unbeaten under coach Frank Nuttal.

It was not an easy start, however, as having joined K’Ogalo in January that year, he conceded six goals in his first five matches, before he kept 10 straight clean sheets and never looked back.

He would win the Golden Glove award, beating his closest rivals by a wide margin; Faruk Shikalo, then of Muhoroni Youth, and Jairus Adira of Chemelil Sugar, who both kept nine clean sheets.
