The Tanzanian club is planning a friendly in Kisumu facilitated by Raila Odinga against top FKF Premier League side.

Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia are gearing up for a high-profile preseason friendly against Tanzanian giants Young Africans (Yanga SC).

The match is tentatively set for July at the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium in Kisumu.

Yanga SC's president, Hersi Ally Said, disclosed that the teams are in discussions, facilitated by the former Prime Minister of Kenya, Rt Hon Raila Odinga, to finalize the arrangements.

During the club's AGM in Dar es Salaam, Hersi expressed enthusiasm about their upcoming preseason plans.

"We will conduct a robust preseason; we have already received invitations from various places, including South Africa. Kaizer Chiefs have extended an invitation, and Mr. Raila Odinga has invited us to Kisumu," he explained.

The partnership between Gor Mahia and Yanga SC has deepened over the years, enhanced by mutual visits and shared interests with various officials from the ODM party, led by Odinga.

Last year, Gor Mahia's Secretary General, Sammy Ochola, traveled to Dar es Salaam where the club initiated talks for a sponsorship deal with GSM, a renowned kit manufacturer that already outfits Yanga SC.

The potential friendly in Kisumu is not just a game but a continuation of a rich tradition of football exchanges that have proved beneficial for both clubs.

Additionally, Gor Mahia is preparing for the inaugural Coal City International Cup in Enugu, Nigeria, starting on August 1, 2024.

This tournament will bring together some of Africa's most competitive clubs promising a thrilling football spectacle.
