Gor Mahia supporters are holding their breath after one of their biggest benefactors was sacked following mass Cabinet firings by President William Ruto.

Gor Mahia fans have been left worried following the dismissal of the entire Cabinet by President William Ruto on Thursday.

President Ruto sacked his Cabinet in the wake of countrywide protests against his government and leadership and among those affected is Eliud Owalo, who served as the ICT CS.

Owalo has been one of Gor Mahia’s biggest benefactors since he was appointed CS, coming to the club’s aid on numerous occasions.

From cash donations, provision of a team bus and promise of helping them construct a stadium and club house, the CS has stood with K’Ogalo for the nearly two years he has been in office and Gor Mahia fans fear the taps might run dry if he is not reinstated to the Cabinet.

Owalo rewarded Gor Mahia with Ksh3 million when they won a record-extending 21st FKF Premier League title in June 2023 and gave them Ksh2 million for retaining their title last month.

During the course of the season, he had donated Ksh500,000 ahead of the Mashemeji derby against AFC Leopards in April.

His biggest show of benevolence, however, was when he donated a new bus to the club valued at Ksh23 million last November.

Gor had been without a bus since 2020 when former player Wellington Ochieng auctioned the club's bus following a court ruling over money K’Ogalo owed to him but Owalo came to their rescue in a big way.

However, the bus is registered under the Eliud Owalo Foundation, and even after the club clarified that it was a way of protecting it from possible auctioneers in future, K’Ogalo fans are still fearful now that Owalo is no longer in Cabinet.
