McKinstry's men head into this clash against Nzoia on the back of a league loss against Mathare.
Gor Mahia have an opportunity to extend their Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) lead when they clash with Nzoia Sugar FC at the Sudi Stadium on Wednesday.
K'Ogalo could go seven points clear at the top of the table with a victory over the hosts in Bungoma.
Gor Mahia suffered their second loss of the season when they went down 2-1 to Mathare United last Wednesday.
Jonathan McKinstry, the Gor Mahia coach, expects a stern test from the hosts, who are fighting hard for their maiden league title.
"It will be a challenging game against Nzoia in Bungoma. We are expecting a very partisan side, an immense atmosphere, and a very partial side.
The boys know it is an important game; they are mentally and physically ready for it, and everyone is fit, healthy, and ready to go. We are going there to extend the lead on top of the table hopefully," said McKinstry.
Gor Mahia have claimed 23 points from ten away matches this season. The only stalemate came in mid-January when they were held to a goalless draw by Sofapaka.
Nzoia will be keen to avoid going for at least three consecutive games without tasting victory when they host K'Ogalo.
In their previous league game, the Salim Babu-coached side were held to a goalless draw by lowly-ranked FC Talanta away in Nairobi.
Interestingly, despite dropping four points in their two last matches, the Sugar Millers are seated second on the league table after 17 games, four points adrift of Gor Mahia.
Nzoia head coach Salim Babu has expressed pride in how the squad has grown this season to continue challenging for silverware.
"It is true that the contest is drawing near as it moves into a crucial phase. We constantly scan our surroundings for threats posed by our nearest rivals. Despite this, we can't let these worries get in the way of our objective, which is to accrue as many points as possible from the games we still have left in the league.
Our worries at the start of the season are all past now. You must have noticed that after every successful league performance, our team members' confidence increases daily," Babu said in a recent interview.
The Sugar Millers come into the encounter having registered five wins and five draws at Sudi Stadium, which they have made a fortress this season.
In the head-to-head stats, Nzoia Sugar and Gor Mahia have met in 13 league matches since 2017.
The Sugar Millers have three wins compared to eight for K'Ogalo, while two matches have been drawn.
When the teams met earlier this season, Gor Mahia beat Nzoia Sugar 1-0 courtesy of a goal from red-hot striker Benson Omala.
