Sylvester Owino has proven to be dependable at the back for 21-time champions Gor Mahia.

Gor Mahia's dependable defender, Sylvester Owino, has shared his thoughts on his future with the club and addressed a recent controversy that stirred fans.

The 23-year-old Kenyan international has been a cornerstone of K’Ogalo’s defense since joining in October 2022, contributing significantly to two consecutive league titles.

Speaking about the possibility of parting ways with the club, Owino emphasized patience and faith.

“Stepping out, we cannot say whether this is the time or not because it’s all in God’s hands,” Owino said via Tata Sport.

“Opportunities to step out don’t come easily, it takes a lot. So, if the opportunity comes, we will step out. But if it does not come now, I know in the near future it will, and we’ll keep pushing.”

Owino also took the opportunity to address the controversy surrounding unsanctioned matches for A Mosquito FC.

The defender, along with other Gor Mahia players, faced backlash from fans after participating in the friendly matches, which were deemed to violate club policies.

“It brought a lot of tension,” Owino admitted. “As one of the players mentioned in the saga, I can say there were no intentions to break the terms of my contract. These are just games we play in the neighborhood, the way we’ve been brought up."

"But as a professional, I understand we have contracts, and the terms should be upheld. I think the management addressed it well, and I don’t think such a thing will happen again.”

For now, Owino remains focused on helping Gor Mahia defend their title. The club currently sits fourth on the league table with 18 points, six points behind leaders KCB, but with a game in hand.
