Gor Mahia coach Sinisa Mihic has sent a rallying message to the club's management with regards to the transfer window after explaining why players like Austin Odhiambo are rare gems.
Gor Mahia head coach Sinisa Mihic has appeared to make a rallying call to the club’s management, explaining why more players like Austin Odhiambo are difficult to find in Kenya.
Mihic was speaking in the aftermath of his side’s 0-0 draw with AFC Leopards at the Nyayo National Stadium last Sunday, with the Mashemeji Derby witnessing a large attendance of fans to grace the occasion.
Although the atmosphere the fans generated was electric, the quality of football on display was lethargic, with both sides struggling to create any chances of meaningful quality.

The few chances created were not well taken. One such example was in the second half, when Gor Mahia had a glorious opportunity to take the lead after Musa found himself unmarked at the far post after a brilliant cross from Paul Ochuoga.
However, he failed to keep his composure, squandering a chance that could have given the Green Army the edge, something that frustrated Mihic in the end.
Mihic explained how he noticed a gaping rate of profligacy among Kenyan top flight clubs in the three months he has been in charge of Gor Mahia since arriving.

AFC Leopards boss reveals strategy used to fill up Nyayo Stadium for Mashemeji Derby
AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda has shared how the club managed to fill up Nyayo Stadium for the Mashemeji Derby that ended goalless against Gor Mahia.
"Finishing is a problem in every team. I’ve said this before in an interview—most of the goals I see in highlights are from set pieces, like corners. But where are the goals from open play?” Mihic asked retorically.
“From combination play, back passes, and finishing? I haven’t seen much of that.”
Mihic was quick to criticise Sharrif Musa’s chance, explaining another example of the lack of clinical nature among most players.
"Finishing is a problem in Kenya, especially in the final 20 meters. For example, today, you saw some chances—easy chances. I don’t want to mention specific players, but there were instances where a player was shooting from just three meters out and still missed.”

'Come meet Benni McCarthy' – Taiwo Atieno urges Tottenham star to ditch England for Kenya
Taiwo Atieno has urged Tottenham Hotspur full-back Djed Spence to visit Kenya and meet Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy before deciding on his international future.
The Croat went on to explain why players like Austin Odhiambo are hard to find.
"Players tend to rush their shots. There aren’t many players like Austin Odhiambo. I want to focus on good examples rather than pointing out weaknesses. He stays composed—even if he misses a chance, he remains calm.”
Mihic then appeared to make a plea to the club’s management to back him in future transfer windows by properly investing in quality attackers to help him achieve his targets by citing examples of world football where the issue appears bigger.
He cited Real Madrid and Barcelona, whose forward lines are stacked mostly with foreign footballers.
"In finishing, you need quality. That’s why clubs around the world spend so much money on strikers and wingers. They pay €100 million or more for top attacking players.
"Look at Real Madrid—one of the biggest clubs in the world, based in a big city. How many Spanish forwards do they have? None, right? They pay a lot of money to bring in top players.
“The same goes for Barcelona—their attacking players are mostly from abroad. Finding quality forwards isn’t easy; you have to pay for them."
With Gor Mahia aiming to maintain their dominance in Kenyan football and make a mark in continental competitions, Mihic’s remarks serve as a clear indication that the club must address its attacking inefficiencies if it hopes to reach greater heights.
