Gor Mahia coach Leonardo Neiva is counting on home support to push his side to an unlikely victory against Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League on Sunday.

Gor Mahia coach Leonardo Neiva feels his team have a chance of pulling an unlikely win against African giants Al Ahly when both teams clash in the CAF Champions League.

K’Ogalo have a big mission on Sunday when they host the 12-time African champions, who have also won the title in the last two seasons, being the second preliminary round stage.

Al Ahly are hot favourites to triumph given their vast experience but Neiva is still confident that Gor Mahia can use home advantage to spring a surprise on their visitors.

“We have a big mission and task over here to play against Al Ahly at home, it will be a tough game but we are ready,” Neiva told SportPesa News.

“We should win the game here. We must play at a high level to stay at the same level with Al Ahly.

“Everybody knows Al Ahly is number one in Africa according to the CAF ranking but it is football, 11 against 11, but we should push ourselves to try and maintain a high-level game to be able to play them here.

“It does not make sense just to play, we should try to win because it will not be easy for us away. That is why we should play well here.”

Neiva is counting on Gor Mahia fans to give his team the much-needed lift as he feels a positive result at home will make their work less tedious when they travel to Cairo next weekend.

Gor Mahia have no injury concerns and welcomed back their players who featured for the national team, a boost to their preparations ahead of their tough mission.

The winner of the two-legged tie will make it to the lucrative group stages of the continental competition.
