K'Ogalo only have a slender two-point advantage at the summit of the log.

Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry has asked fans to tone down their expectations on his side in order to ease pressure on them given the tight nature of this season’s title race.

The race for the title is tighter than ever before, with four teams currently standing a realistic chance of claiming their hands on the coveted crown.

Gor Mahia are currently on top of the standings with 56 points, two ahead of Tusker who failed to win away against third-placed Nzoia Sugar while KCB are just seven points behind K’Ogalo following their draw with AFC Leopards on Sunday.

The record league champions beat Kenya Police 1-0 at the Kasarani Stadium on Saturday in a match where the water-logged and tough state of the pitch made it difficult for the players to express themselves.

“I think it is important to calm down when you are in a head-to-head title race and you are a young supporter or young player who has not experienced this before,” he said, “There are a lot of players playing for K’Ogalo right now who have not been in a title race before,” he added.

“They haven’t competed for big trophies before. We work with them and make them aware of the psychology behind it. We know they are good players and we know that if they show their potential, they can beat any team in this division and they have continually shown it this season.

“However, we also know that when you are young sometimes you can get distracted or your confidence takes a hit. Today they showed how good they are. For some of them, this is the first time they have taken part in an FKFPL match in such tough conditions. It is good for their confidence.

“However, there are still eight games left to play so we have to take it a game at a time.”
