The centre-back is among the players rumoured to be on the verge of leaving Simba SC ahead of next season.

Kenyan giants Gor Mahia and Tanzanian side Singida Big Stars are set for an epic battle to sign Harambee Stars defender Joash Onyango.

Onyango is reportedly close to leaving Simba, and rumours coming out of Tanzania claim the imminent departure has put Gor Mahia and Big Stars in line to sign the experienced centre-back.

Big Stars have recently attracted big names like Meddie Kagere, enjoy fairly strong financial muscle, and can bid for any big player available.

Their ambition to establish themselves as a force to reckon with in Tanzanian competitions saw them sign Brazilian forwards Rodrygo Figueiredo and Dario Junior, as well as defensive midfielder Bruno Gomes.

Apart from the Brazilians, Shafik Batambuze, a former Tusker and Gor Mahia full-back, Angola’s centre-forward Filhao, Ghanaian midfielder Nicholas Gyan and forward Bright Adjei, and former Simba centre-back Serge Wawa are some of the experienced foreigners in their squad.

Said Ndemla, previously at Mtibwa Sugar and Simba, former Yanga central midfielder Deus Kaseke, and Hamisi Tambwe are local stars who were acquired to boost the club’s chances of rising.

On the other hand, Gor Mahia would hope to massively boost their defensive unit, as they stand a chance of winning the Football Kenya Federation Premier League and consequently booking a place in the CAF Champions League.

Onyango could offer Gor Mahia solidity at the back, and experience gained at the continental stage having participated numerously with Simba will come in handy.

Although he has attracted criticism in the last two seasons, Onyango can also attract interest from ambitious clubs given his winning credentials.
