Goal Rush: How is the FKF Premier League Golden Boot decided in a tie?

Golden Boot contenders in FKF Premier League are set to face off in final matches aiming to clinch the prestigious top scorer's award.

All 18 teams will be in action on Sunday afternoon, culminating in what promises to be an electrifying finale to the FKF Premier League season.

With the championship already decided in favor of Gor Mahia, who clinched their 21st title, attention shifts to the individual accolade that remains hotly contested—the Golden Boot award.

This season's scoring race is particularly tense, with two formidable strikers, Benson Omala of Gor Mahia and Tito Okello of Kenya Police, neck-and-neck as the campaign draws to a close.

Omala leads the pack with 17 goals, closely followed by Okello, who has netted 16 times.

The drama intensifies as both players are scheduled to make their final stand in matches against Bidco United and Kariobangi Sharks respectively.

Historically, the FKF Premier League has seen its fair share of ties at the top of the scoring charts.

Unlike other major football leagues, which often use assists as tiebreakers, the FKF Premier League adopts a more communal approach.

In the event that players finish on equal goals, the Golden Boot is shared—a scenario that unfolded in the 2019 season when Allan Wanga, Enosh Ochieng, and Umaru Kasumba all finished as joint top scorers.

Omala, still smarting from last season's narrow miss, is eager to ensure his scoring efforts culminate in personal glory this time around.

Last year, despite a monumental 26 goals, he was pipped to the post by Elvis Rupia's record-breaking 27-goal haul.

Omala's desire to avoid a repeat of such disappointment will be a driving force as he takes to the pitch at Machakos Stadium.

On the other hand, Tito Okello is not just fighting for personal success but also to uphold the honor of Kenya Police, following in the footsteps of his predecessor Rupia.

A win for Okello would mark back-to-back Golden Boot victories for the Kenya Police, cementing their reputation as a breeding ground for top-tier talent.

This season has also been noteworthy for the lower-than-usual goal tallies among top scorers, hinting at a more defensively robust league.

None of the leading strikers are poised to break the 20-goal mark, contrasting sharply with the previous season's high-scoring exploits.

Fans are also keeping an eye on John Mark Makwata and Eric Kapaito, who sit third and fourth in the scoring charts.

While Kapaito would need a near-miraculous performance against Kakamega Homeboyz to vault into contention, Makwata remains a dark horse, just two goals behind Okello.

The final matches of the season promise to be a thrilling spectacle with the Golden Boot race adding an extra layer of excitement.
