The African brothers combined to give Steve Cooper his first win as Leicester City boss

Nigeria’s Wilfred Ndidi was on target as Leicester City enjoyed a 4-0 win over Tranmere Rovers in the EFL Cup second round.

Ndidi found the back of the net to score Leicester’s third goal of the game after Jordan Ayew, who provided the assist for the Nigerian’s goal had opened the scoring late in the first half.

Further goals from Stephy Mavididi and Harry Winks helped secure a routine 4-0 win and Steve Cooper’s first victory as Leicester City boss.

How it happened

After enjoying better possession and chances during the first half, summer signing Jordan Ayew opened the scoring in the 38th minute for Leicester with a stunning strike that curled into the top corner, marking his first goal for the club.

The Foxes continued to press after the break, hoping to extend their advantage, and just five minutes into the second half, Stephy Mavididi calmly converted a penalty to double the lead after Ricardo Pereira was fouled in the box.

The Foxes remained in control throughout the match, with Wilfred Ndidi adding a third goal in the 70th minute after a clever link-up with Ayew.

Former Tottenham man, Harry Winks capped off the evening with a powerful long-range effort, sealing the 4-0 win and giving Cooper his first victory as Leicester's manager.
