Gernot Rohr has acknowledged two Nigerian forwards, Terem Moffi and Josh Maja for their great form in French football this season so far.
The former Super Eagles manager who is based in France earmarked Moffi and Maja as the two Nigerian strikers that have impressed him the most this season.
Moffi has scored 12 goals in 18 Ligue 1 games this season for Lorient while Maja has 11 goals in 19 games for Bordeaux in Ligue 2 so far.
Gernot Rohr lauds Moffi and Maja
Speaking to The Nation, Rohr picked two players whom he handed their maiden Super Eagles callups and debuts in Moffi and Maja as his favourite Nigerian strikers this season.
“Terem Moffi is a powerful centre forward, a good goal scorer, he's also good with the head, good protection of the ball and mentally, very strong which makes him to be a complete striker,” Rohr said in admiration of Moffi.
“I like this player. Presently, he (Moffi) is one of the best players at Lorient,” the 69-year-old said from his base in France.
Moffi is currently the second-highest scorer in Ligue 1 behind only Kylian Mbappe but he’s not the only Nigerian scoring at a high volume in France.
Josh Maja has been described by Rohr as “the best goal scorer of the second division” for his exploits in Ligue 2 where he tops the scorers’ chart with 11 goals.
“Maja is doing well this season after coming back to Bordeaux from loans (Fulham and Stoke City) in England and Bordeaux is now second in the league presently,” Rohr said in praise of the 24-year-old.
“I hope Maja who has scored 11 goals can bring back Bordeaux to the first division (Ligue 1) again,” the former Super Eagles manager concluded.
Maja has also been linked with a transfer away from Bordeaux as his goalscoring exploits have caught the attention of multiple Premier League clubs meaning he may not see out the season with Rohr’s beloved Bordeaux.
