The German star who also missed the 2022 WEUROS has ruled herself out of contention for the 2023 World Cup
Germany’s Dzenifer Maroszan has decided to call time on her international career with DFB-Frauenteam despite having a chance of playing in the FIFA World Cup which comes up in three months.
Marozsan wants to focus on Lyon
Marozsan cited her ongoing battle with a knee problem as her reason for retiring as she seeks to focus on club football with French Club Lyon.
Marozsan suffered an ACL injury in April 2022 and missed the 2022 UEFA Women’s Champions League final against Barcelona, as well as the entire 2022 Women’s European Championships.
Marozsan has not been the same since the injury and the 30-year-old five-time UWCL winner believes that she can no longer cope with the rigours of club football and international campaigns because she believes that her knee "isn't the same as before.”
Marozsan worried about knee injury
Marozsan, a European Champion with Germany and the scorer of the goal that won her country its first-ever Olympic gold medal will be unable to offer her services to DFB-Frauenteam at the 2023 FIFA World Cup, but her announcement was not of immediate retirement.
Germany have a friendly game against Brazil in April, which is expected to be Marozsan’s swansong from the national team, almost exactly a year since she ruptured her ACL.
