Jamal Musiala and Ilkay Gundogan were the heroes as EURO 2024 hosts Germany overcame a difficult Hungary side to make it back-to-back wins.

Jamal Musiala, the talented German-Nigerian youngster, was once again on the scoresheet as Julian Nagelsmann's men overcame a stubborn Hungary side to make it two wins from two in the EURO 2024.

Musiala and Ilkay Gundogan were the heroes as Germany became the first team to book a spot in the knockout stages on Wednesday evening in Stuttgart.

Musiala shines for Germany again

The 20-year-old Bayern Munich star, who has been in sensational form, opened the scoring midway through the first half to give the home side the advantage going into the break. 

It was a deserved lead for the dominant Germans, who had bossed possession and created the better chances.

The second half was a nervier affair, with Hungary coming out with more intent to try and find an equalizer. 

But Germany stood firm and captain Gündogan doubled their lead with a cool finish midway through the half to seal the victory.

It was a hard-fought three points for the hosts, who had to work hard to break down a well-organized Hungarian defence. 

But in the end, the class and quality of this German side shone through, with Musiala and Gündogan the heroes on the night.

Nagelsmann will be delighted to have booked their spot in the quarterfinals with a game to spare, allowing him to potentially rotate his squad in the final group game. 

As for Hungary, despite the second back-to-back defeats ever in their history in the competition, they can hold their heads high after a gutsy display but ultimately came up short against the tournament favourites.

All in all, a solid win for Germany, who continue to show why they are one of the main contenders to lift the EURO 2024. 

Musiala, in particular, is proving to be a revelation and is quickly becoming one of the stars of this European Championship.
