Mbappe was taken off in the first half of PSG's last Ligue 1 game
Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier has issued an update on injured superstar Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe was taken off with a suspected injury during PSG’s 3-1 win over Montpellier on Tuesday night, and Galtier has now issued reassurances on Mbappe, suggesting that the injury was not as serious as feared.
Galtier remains positive about Mbappe injury
Mbappe had missed a penalty twice against Montpellier before being taken off, and pitch-side microphones picked up his conversation with the PSG team doctor where he said he was in too much pain to continue.
Galtier has shed more light on the situation, and put a positive spin on the circumstances, saying the club did not consider the injury too serious.
Speaking with Canal + after the Montpellier match, Galtier said Mbappe “took a blow to the knee, behind the thigh. So we’ll see,” before later assessing the situation saying “He also has pain in the muscle. We don’t think it’s too serious.”
Conflicting reports
Despite Galtier’s positive outlook, reports in France, especially from L’Equipe suggest that Mbappe’s injury could be more serious than his coach suggests.
They claim that Mbappe has suffered a thigh strain which could potentially rule him out for up to three weeks.
Although Galtier is optimistic that this will not happen, Mbappe could potentially be ruled out of PSG’s crucial UEFA Champions League tie against Bayern Munich which is only two weeks away.
The struggling Ligue 1 giants have won only two of their last five matches in the league and will be hoping that Mbappe returns sooner rather than later with the season entering its most crucial period.
