FKFPL Gallant Mathare unite to break Bandari's six-year jinx

Festus Chuma 10:20 - 16.03.2023

Tusker face unpredictable Ulinzi Stars while Rangers hope to cage AFC Leopards. Struggling Wazito and City Stars engage in bottom of the table clash.

Form team Mathare United headline seven FKF Premier League fixtures scheduled for Thursday as the Slum Boys hope to claim their first win over Bandari in six years and slay a third successive giant.

The Slum Boys have never defeated the Dockers in the last 11 league matches.

They have drawn seven times, and Bandari has claimed four wins after their 3-1 victory in 2016, and they will be eager to avoid defeat as they lost 3-0 to Bandari in 2021 in Mombasa.

Mathare United have won three of their last five games, and they are presently sitting in the 14th place in the league table with 19 points from 18 matches. A home will see them move one position up on the log.

Samuel Koko's coach side defeated AFC Leopards 1-0 at home last Sunday, with a goal from Chris Otieno. The Slum Boys have claimed 12 points from as many home matches this season.

Bandari FC have won five of their seven league matches and will be eager to get their scalp over the revered Mathare.

The Dockers have had a good season thus far and a draw on the ground they are yet to lose since October 2016 will not be a stroll in the park for Mathare to get their desired results.

Nzoia Sugar v Police

Nzoia Sugar will attempt to get their title challenge on track when they host Kenya Police FC at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.

The Sugar Millers have gone winless in their last four matches and dropped to fifth place on the table. They lost by a solitary goal to Bandari FC in their previous league match.

Salim Babu, the Nzoia Sugar coach, has admitted they need to win their next game to put more pressure on table leaders Gor Mahia who picked three points in the past weekend.

"We are not going to put any pressure on ourselves, our target is to win our next game, basically, and we're taking one match at a time," the former Kisumu All Stars coach said.

Kenya Police will be looking to complete a league double against Nzoia Sugar, having beaten the western Kenya side 2-0 on January 22.Pattilah Omoto and Duke Abuya scored the goals for the hosts at Nyayo National Stadium.

Francis Baraza's coach side claimed a 1-0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz in their previous outing, pushing them to fourth place on the log.

Police form has been relatively alright away with only two losses from nine games. They must work on their direct attack if they are to get the expected result in Bungoma.

Baraza anticipates a cagey affair against a team he knows very well, but he's hoping to strike a good balance tactically in order to come away with a positive result.

"I predict a callous game against Nzoia, who are in a good position on the league table. Salim Babu's outfit is composed of excellent and versatile young players.

When playing at home, Nzoia are a tough nut to crack, so we have to work on our weak points that I saw in the match against Homeboyz, and we will be ready for the harrowing encounter," said Baraza.

In head-to-head stats, Nzoia Sugar and Police have met in three league matches. Police claimed two wins, while the rivalry has drawn one game.

Ulinzi Stars v Tusker

Ulinzi Stars will hope to go for three points when they host Tusker at the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

The Soldiers dropped three crucial points when they lost 1-0 to Posta Rangers, and they will be aiming to get their campaign back on track.

Ulinzi coach Bernard Mwalala has emphasized the importance of the clash against the Police, who they must beat to increase their chances for a better league finish.

"A league match is not a final, we have an important match on Thursday. We need to stay positive and maintain a growth mindset focusing on how we can improve rather than dwelling on the negative outcome of the past game," said Mwalala.

Ulinzi Stars are currently in seventh place on the log with 31 points from 19 games played this season.

Tusker, on their side, are currently third on the log with 35 points from 18 matches, and they played to a 1-1 against FC Talanta in their last league outing.

Both teams have met 30 times in the local league, with Ulinzi having claimed nine wins compared to 10 wins for the Brewers, while 12 matches have been drawn.
