Brazil superstar Neymar came to the aid of his friend Dani Alves who was handed a four-and-a-half-year sentence over sexual assault by a Spanish court on Thursday.
Catalonia’s top court found Alves guilty of sexually assaulting a woman at a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022 and handed him the sentence while also ordering him to pay 150,000 euros (Ksh23,685,110) to the victim.

Embatled Dani Alves once had a £47m (Ksh 8.7 billion) fortune but now worth over 3000 times less after being found guilty of raping a woman in a nightclub in Spain.
In support of his great friend and former team-mate at both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain as well as the Brazil national team, Neymar and his family paided the 150,000 euros (Ksh23,685,110) to the victim.
It is reported that the prosecution had wanted Alves to be jailed for nine years while the victim asked for 12 years but with Neymar's help, a deposit of €150,000 was made, and the sentence was reduced to four-and-a-half years.
Neymar's family also made Brazilian defender Gustavo Xisto, one of the oldest legal representatives of Neymar's father's companies, available.
Alves, who has maintained his innocence, insisting the sex was consensual, will appeal the sentence.

Former Barcelona right-back Dani Alves has been jailed for four-and-a-half years after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman at a Barcelona nightclub in December 2022.
The former right-back was also slapped with a nine-and-a-half year restraining order, prohibiting any contact with the victim upon his release.
Even after completing his prison term, Alves will be required to serve five years' worth of probation.
