Harambee Stars interim coach Francis Kimanzi has weighed in on the importance of the Mapinduzi Cup tournament to his squad while giving an assurance to the players who did not make it.
Harambee Stars interim coach Francis Kimanzi has given an assurance to players who were dropped from the Mapinduzi Cup squad that they will still be needed for the African Nations Championships (CHAN).
Kimanzi named his final team of 24 on Wednesday for the regional tournament which Kenya is using as part of their build-up for CHAN which the country will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.
While those selected have an opportunity to showcase their talents and win a place in the CHAN team, Kimanzi says the door is not closed for the other players as they will still stand an equal chance for the tournament as well as some that were not in the initial camp.

'I am the best' - Shabana winger Brian Michira on the mentality that earned him Harambee Stars call-up
Michira, who has arguably been the FKF Premier League's best player so far this season, has opened up on the reasons behind his form that saw him called up to Harambee Stars squad.
“This Mapinduzi Cup is a blessing to us because it gives us an opportunity,” Kimanzi said after naming his final squad.
“We have already seen 40 players, we will still invite them, all the players we kept aside who will not be travelling for Mapinduzi Cup will be the first players in the next camp and then we shall also bring other players on board.
“We also need to check players from the nationwide level, there are some players with good statistics there in terms of their current form and performance and see because CHAN has to produce players from the local leagues.
