France will be led by Aurelien Tchouameni in their match against Israel

Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni has been appointed as captain for the upcoming Nations League match against Israel, stepping in for the injured Kylian Mbappé.

The French Football Federation made the announcement on Wednesday.

Tchouaméni, who has earned 36 caps for France, is set to take on this crucial leadership role during a challenging period for the team.

With Mbappé side-lined due to a minor thigh injury, and vice-captain Antoine Griezmann having recently announced his retirement from international football, Tchouaméni's experience will be vital as France looks to secure valuable points in the Nations League.

Coach Didier Deschamps praised Tchouaméni's maturity and leadership skills, highlighting his pivotal role in the squad despite his relatively young age.

"Aurélien has shown tremendous promise and resilience on the field," Deschamps remarked. "This is a great opportunity for him to step up and lead the team."

France currently trails Italy by three points in their Nations League group after two matches.

The match against Israel on Thursday will be crucial, not only to bolster their standing but also to build momentum ahead of their challenging fixture against Belgium four days later.

Tchouameni will be on the spotlight as France look to bounce back from the Italy defeat.
