Kayiwa, who was previously considered surplus to requirements at the club, has managed to recapture imagination with an exceptional season at Express FC, finishing as top scorer of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
Vipers SC has identified a former outcast Allan Kayiwa as their top transfer target for the upcoming season.
Kayiwa, who was previously considered surplus to requirements at the club, has managed to recapture imagination with an exceptional season at Express FC, finishing as top scorer of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
The Venoms known for their ambitious approach to team building, have made it clear that they are ready to make a big splash in the transfer market with the CAF Champions League in hindsight.
And the pursuit of Kayiwa signifies their determination to strengthen the squad and compete for top honours in the upcoming season.
Vipers president Lawrence Mulindwa is said to be a good admirer of the player, and would still want to have him return to the St. Mary's Stadium in Kitende
Vipers are expected to bolster their options in midfield and in attack ahead of the 2023/23 season, and are expected to sign at least one player in both departments.
The league champions are not the only team interested in the player, with URA FC and SC Villa also understood to be prepared to enter the race for his signature,
Kayiwa’s season with the Read Eagles is reminiscent of a phoenix rising from the ashes. After leaving Vipers FC in a less than amicable manner, the forward has repaid the faith placed in him by coach James Odoch.
Odoch predicted in November 2023, that Kayiwa had the potential to actually emerge as the league’s top marksman.
By then, he had only scored four goals in the opening six games to set himself quickly as an integral part of the Express team.
Kayiwa had benefited from a change in roles, from playing as a wide forward to playing just behind the striker, with freedom to roam and get into the spaces.
Over the course of the season, he has grown from strength to strength scoring crucial goals for the Red Eagles, to finish with 13 goals in 28 games, helping the seven-time league champions finish 10th.
