Former Super Eagles boss returns to coaching after corruption saga, takes charge of Barau FC

He was the coach of the home-based Super Eagles that won silver at the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Former Super Eagles assistant coach, Salisu Yusuf, has been appointed as the new coach of the Nigeria National League (NNL) side, Barau FC.

The experienced tactician signed a one-year contract with the club owned by Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau.

Recall that Salisu was once banned for one year for collecting bribes to influence his team ahead of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN).

Yusuf, renowned for his vast experience in Nigerian football, is tasked with leading Barau FC to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The 62-year-old's impressive coaching resume include stints with top-tier clubs like Nasarawa United, Kano Pillars, Enyimba, and El-Kanemi Warriors.

He led the home-based Super Eagles to the final of the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN). His recent role as an advisor at Rivers United further solidified his reputation as a seasoned football tactician.

Also, he had a notable playing career primarily as a midfielder. He played for several clubs in Nigeria during the 1980s and 1990s.

He began his career with the local clubs in Nigeria including NPFL Champions, and Rangers before moving to play for more prominent teams.

Yusuf also represented Nigeria at the international level, earning caps for the national team. He was part of the squad during the 1980s, a period during which Nigerian football was gaining prominence in Africa.

After retiring from professional play, Yusuf transitioned into coaching, and has enjoyed some level of success as a manager.

Salisu Yusuf's new club Barau FC are eager to make a strong impact, and have assembled a 30-man squad for the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-season Tournament.
