The Spanish manager takes over the reins at Usuthu from long-serving player-tuned coach Ayanda Dlamini.

Former Simba SC coach Pablo Franco Martins has been appointed in a similar position at South Africa Premier Soccer League side Amazulu.

Amazulu confirmed on Tuesday evening that the Spaniard had taken charge of the Kwazulu-Natal-based club, replacing long-serving player-turned-coach Ayanda Dlamini.

"Following an intense two weeks after the announcement to appoint the new Head Coach of Usuthu, Club President Sandile Zungu has today roped in the services of Spaniard, Pablo Franco Martin on a 36-month long deal," the club stated.

Former AFC Leopards coach  Luc Eymael and  Dutchman Alfons Groenendijk were some of the names linked with the hot seat, which SuperSport United boss Gavin Hunt ejected a couple of weeks ago after an opening approach from Usuthu.

The 43-year-old coach served as Simba between December 2021 and May 2022, and the Msimbazi Reds administration fired him over what was alleged to be dissatisfaction with the team's performance.

During his tenure at Simba, the club reached the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals, where South African side Orlando Pirates eliminated them.

Franco holds a UEFA Pro License and once worked under Julen Lopetegui in 2018 at Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Amazulu finished in a disappointing 12th place in the league last season after previously enjoying an ascent to CAF Champions League football under former head coach Benni McCarthy, who was sacked back in May 2022.
